Grassland Drawing

Friday, May 7th, 2010

I put a second coat of turquoise paint on my accent wall, then got back to work on my drawing of the Little Missouri National Grasslands. We were fortunate to not have too much snow accumulate, and we didn’t lose our electricity. Here’s to milder days!

Grasslands Green

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

I got back to my drawing of green grasslands this afternoon, adding some yellow-green and orange to the left side of the hill.

“Land of Grass” in the Land of Snow

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Wow, there are some big, fat, flakes of snow descending upon us today, here in the land of grass. I’ve not been out in it yet, but may see what it’s like later this afternoon when the art club meets at the library. In the meanwhile, I’ve added more trees and grass to my latest drawing.

Out in the Land of Grass

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Well, the weather has me staying inside, but I’ve been out in the land of grass while working on my latest drawing from the comfort of my studio. Early May seems to be coming in like a lion! Hope she settles down soon.

The First Day of May

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Happy May Day, everybody! It’s a rainy, windy morning here in the prairie country of southwestern North Dakota. A good day to concentrate on art projects. I worked a little more on my new grasslands drawing and made progress on the middle ground.

The End of April

Friday, April 30th, 2010

The end of April has arrived, and it’s a rainy exit. Glad to have the grass seed and yarrow planted. After a bunch of house and yard projects, I thought maybe I should get back to my new drawing of the grasslands. This time of year turns into a balancing act, taking care of art projects, indoor jobs, and garden chores. It’s good to have a mix going, though, especially after being cooped up all winter. Printed out a couple more photos of the Badlands today. That should give me enough material for a while. Will have to get out into the Little Missouri National Grasslands soon and do some more prairie walking. We are so fortunate to have over a million acres of this rugged country to explore, so close to home.

“Land of Grass” is Begun

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

I’m working on a new grasslands drawing with colors similar to “Grasslands in Green.” How I love these prairie hills and horizons of North Dakota!

Land of Grass

There’s something very appealing about a drawing in the very beginning stages. Maybe it’s the pure potential that’s just waiting to be expressed. Maybe someday my completed drawings will have more of an unfinished quality to them. We’ll see…

Green and Yellow in the Grasslands

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I added some more green to my grasslands drawing today, along with some permanent dark yellow. Later on, I may start another grasslands drawing and cut some mats. It’s a very cool 37 degrees outside, so there’s not much appeal to doing yardwork.

Greener and Greener

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

It’s getting greener everywhere you look these days, including my drawing of the Little Missouri National Grasslands. I worked a little more on the left side today, and moved it closer to completion. We’ve had a light rain today, and it’s made the lawn positively verdant!

On the Grasslands

Friday, April 16th, 2010

It’s been cool and windy, but I can enjoy going over the grasslands of North Dakota from the comfort of my studio. I worked on the left side of this drawing today, and made some progress.
