Mat Boards & Drawing Plans

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

I’ve been thinking about my next series of drawings, and what size to make them. After some review, I came up with eight images I’d like to use, and got the mat boards cut for them. They will be in addition to the two green grasslands drawings currently in progress. The formats will be a little unusual for me, with two long panoramics, one square, and five vertical images. Most of my drawings have been horizontal, with the framed size at 28 x 38 inches. These will be different, because I took two pictures for each of them with sky and land in them, so I’d have a  good exposure for both areas. I cut two photos along the horizon line and taped them together, giving me an extra long, vertical orientation. It should be a nice change!

“A North Dakota Portfolio” is Published

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

My new art portfolio book arrived today, and I’m very pleased with it. It is titled “A North Dakota Portfolio” and is for sale at www.blurb.com. You can preview all the pages online, which is a great feature. It is a combination of my badlands and prairie drawings, along with my colorful “Equus” series.

Portfolio Is Being Published

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I have finished my portfolio of horse and landscape drawings, and it has been uploaded to Blurb.com. It has 54 pages, color photographs, and a soft cover. I can’t wait to see how it looks, and hope I didn’t make too many errors. It should ship on or before April 12th.

The process of making a book this way is fairly easy. First I laid out my note card images on sheets of computer paper, and arranged the layout. Then I uploaded those files and inserted them onto the page layouts. There are layouts available for both text and photos. It took me a while to figure out how to resize my photo to fit the container, but I realized as long as the number of inches was exact, everything else worked. After I’d finished the layout, I learned that the containers can be changed to fit your design. Well, maybe next time. I think I’d like to do a book of my photographs, also, sometime in the future.

Blurb Portfolio

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

I’ve been working on a new portfolio book of my horse and landscape drawings, using the Blurb.com program. What fun! I have all the photos inserted, and am now playing around with page compositions. Will have to come up with some text for a few areas, too.

Images for Web Gallery

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

I’m finally getting around to updating my blog pages, which is real progress. The note card images I’ve just printed are a big help in deciding how to arrange the pictures in my portfolio section, at least for my landscape and horse drawings. May have to do a search for the prairie photograph galleries. Anyway, please bear with me as I learn how to navigate around the pages of WordPress.

Replacements Have Arrived

Friday, March 5th, 2010

My order of replacement pastel pencils and sharpener blades arrived yesterday. I’m getting closer to starting a new series of Badlands drawings, which will be based on photographs I took last September near the East River Road. I’ve been invited to show my drawings at the July 2nd Rider Gallery Art Show and the July 4th Arts Roundup in Dickinson, and I’m really looking forward to it.

There will be a public reception on Monday, March 8, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. It looks like there will also be a reception for the Faculty Biennial Show at the same time at Hartnett Hall Gallery. Both galleries are in the Northwest Art Center. Stop by if you’re in the Minot area then, and take a look.
