Well, yesterday I cut down the stands of sunflowers and hollyhocks in the front yard. They had a good run, but their race was clearly over. I saved a few sunflower blossoms from several plants to make one last arrangement. Today we are getting a light snow!  Hope it won’t stick around too long. October can be a really enjoyable month around here. Next year I will have to try some different varieties of sunflowers. There is really a wonderful range of color and size available in these cheery blossoms. The photographs I managed to get this first year should yield some interesting drawings, and I am really looking forward to trying my hand at them.

Boy, the wind is roaring out there today. Not a good time to photograph sunflowers, but an ideal situation for catching up with ones taken in the last few days.

Last night I managed to get all caught up with my sunflower files. That took a load off! It’s a good problem to have, though, isn’t it? So much beauty in the world, so little time.

We’ve had some sunny and fairly calm weather, which makes for good flower photography. I’m slowly but surely getting caught up on my picture files of sunflowers, even as I gather more for my portfolio almost daily. I guess you’ve got to make hay while the sun shines!

I’m getting to know the ropes on my new computer a little bit more every day, and am catching up on my sunflower compositions. There are still lots of sunflowers growing in the front yard, and I’m hoping to create some drawings based on my photographs of them. It’s fascinating to see all the varieties of color and form that came from just two packages of seeds, although I just had to tweak some of the hues a bit more in the computer.
