The First of February

Monday, February 1st, 2010

There was a beautiful sky near sunset time tonight. Thought I’d capture a cloud for you. Haven’t done that in quite a while. Nice to have January behind us now!

More January Clouds

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

There have been some good cloud days this month. I’ve managed to get outside once in a while to survey the January sky, and I’ve been surprised to see such vibrant cloudscapes in the middle of winter.

The First Day of December

Monday, December 1st, 2008

It’s a beautiful day here in Bowman, North Dakota on the first day of December! What a great day for the annual Christmas Stroll, and the “Art for the Heart” show and sale at the library. I spent part of the morning over at the library, photographing the arts and crafts in more detail. Look for more photos soon of the wonderful quiltwork, ceramics, woodwork, artwork, photography, and jewelry available at this exhibit sponsored by the Prairie Rose Art Guild.

Flying Cloud

It’s been a lovely day for southwestern North Dakota in the last week of November. Here are some cloud photos from this morning.

Clouds over Talbot Butte

Earlier this morning, I had to run an errand on the southeast edge of Bowman. I took my trusty little digital camera along, just in case there would be “subject matter.” It had rained a little, and the sky was very dramatic. Decided to focus on the area right around Talbot Butte.

I love the buttes of southwestern North Dakota. I love their simple, massive shapes that identify the horizons of home.

Patches of blue were beginning to show behind the grey clouds as they broke up and floated away.

Now this is the kind of sky that comes to mind when I think of the month of November.

Here’s a Northern Plains landscape for you, pared right down to the bone. It feels somewhat oceanic, doesn’t it?

Remember what they say about “waiting five minutes” regarding the weather around here? Well, this isn’t a few minutes later, but it is just a few hours later.

The sky was so dynamic that I made several return trips outside just to see the latest cloud compositions. These clouds are more of what I imagine when I think of summer skies. It’s good to finally be a little more observant of the world around me.

Normally, I’d want to leave the tree branches out, but here I was using the house to block the sun on the right side, and I wanted to show the height and depth of these lively clouds.

Well, I guess I don’t have to worry about finding images for my November cloud portfolio. The skies of November have been a beautiful and pleasant surprise so far. Will keep looking up, and hope you will, too!

It was another good day for some white clouds in a blue Dakota sky. Thought I’d catch them while I could.

November Clouds

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

The first day of November offered up some cloud formations to add to my portfolio. I can’t say that I’ve ever given much thought to the clouds at this time of year. Guess I’ve generally thought of November as a rather gray, overcast month.  I’m sure we’ll see some of that, too. Like they say around here, “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.”
