Here we are on one of the nicest days in one of the nicest months of the year! I plan to get out to the garden and dig up just a little more grass so I can plant just a few more sunflowers. Then I will touch up the lime green patio, some flower pots, and buckets with fresh paint. It won’t be long now before all the buying and planting is done, and I can just relax and enjoy the beauty. Well, along with some weeding and watering, naturally. Hope you all have a great time today. It really doesn’t get any better than this!

Friday, May 28th, 2010Gardening Away
Friday, May 28th, 2010It turned out to be a really nice afternoon, and it was a pleasure to add plants to the garden. I got some pink and white cosmos seeds, alyssum seeds, silkweed, blanket flower, mystic spires blue salvia, and David phlox. In the morning and late afternoon I went back to the tulip garden for some new photographs. What a joy it has been, seeing each new color and form arise and unfold. Here are the shots from this morning, hope you enjoy them. Have a happy Memorial Day weekend, everybody!
A Sunday in May
Sunday, May 16th, 2010Tulip Forms
Wednesday, May 5th, 2010I looked up the weather forecast this afternoon, and saw that we may be in for another heavy snowfall. I sincerely hope they are mistaken, but just in case they aren’t, I went out to the backyard and photographed tulip buds and their curvy leaves. I’m not exactly sure what eight inches or more of snow would do to these tender young flowers, but I hope they would manage to pull through. It was a pleasure observing them at this stage, anyway, and I got some interesting results. The first batch is without filters, and the second batch is with different filter effects.
May 3rd
Monday, May 3rd, 2010It was a day of chores, indoors and out. I started by giving myself the treat of an accent wall in turquoise. Then I met with one of the leaders of our community. Next, I dug up more grass for another lily garden. In between these jobs, I photographed the tulips in the front yard and the young lilac in the side yard. The late afternoon turned out to be quite nice, and I wanted to take advantage of that, just in case it gets windy and rainy again!

Lovely Day
Saturday, April 24th, 2010I spent the morning printing out photos of the Badlands until I ran out of ink. When I ran to town for supplies, I noticed it was a really, really nice day. The afternoon was spent digging in the iris and tulip garden. What a pleasure! Several of the tulips have buds snuggled up in their leaves. Won’t be long, now, til there is some color out there! It was around 60 degrees, hardly a breeze, and the songs of birds filled the air. Only two small patches of snow remain, and they will most likely be gone tomorrow. Looking good.

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010Crocus Collection
Monday, April 12th, 2010I decided to go back out in the country yesterday afternoon for some more crocus photos. It’s harder to get good pictures of them than you’d think. Sometimes the edge of a petal is brown, or there’s a bug crawling on them, or the wind blows them into a blur, or the focus isn’t sharp enough, or the light is too harsh… Anyway, they appeared nice and fresh, and were quite thick and luxurious looking. It was fairly breezy, but I managed to get some pretty nice images in spite of it. There are lots of new, furry arrivals waiting to open their flowers yet, so if conditions are favorable again, I may make another expedition to the crocus hills.
I don’t think I can overstate how much prairie dwellers love to see the crocus or pasqueflowers emerge in the spring. It means that the long, harsh, cold, snowy, icy, frosty, foggy winter is over. Glory Hallelujah!
