Turquoise Project is Finished

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Well, I’ve applied two coats of turquoise paint on my bookcases and put my books and art objects back on them. It felt good to go through all my old books, catalogs, and magazines and get rid of the ones I no longer need.

Turquoise Furniture

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

I decided to paint a couple of pieces of furniture yesterday. After the long, snowy, frosty, foggy, icy, and oppressive winter, it was becoming more apparent that I would have to do something to lighten and brighten my decor. I think this bright, vibrant turquoise might just fill the bill, at least for now. It was also time to get rid of a couple of end tables that didn’t really fit in, and were good for just collecting lots of magazines and catalogs. Think I might have caught a small case of spring fever!

Happy Halloween

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Well, here we are on the last day of October. I guess we received the trick of cold, snowy weather instead of the treat of a glorious, sun-soaked month of golden leaves. Maybe next year… Uff Da!

I’ve been studying the artwork of Emily Carr and Georgia O’Keeffe. It’s good to get your head out of your own studio every now and then. Next up is a bunch of fall housecleaning. I kind of let the indoors slide while I was busy with the outdoors the past few months. It’ll be good to get things cleaned and organized for the winter days ahead.

Around the House in Sepia

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

After trying some different ways to achieve a sepia tone with my computer, I remembered that my digital camera has that option, also. In order to try it out, I went around the house and photographed objects in different rooms.

My collection of pastel pencils has been expanding, and I wanted to figure out a way to arrange them by color. I found these wooden Mexican sugar molds on the website of Great Stuff by Paul, and they work great for that.

Anyway, I kind of like the sepia tone that my digital camera can apply to my photographs, and will have to keep it in mind for the future. One of the things I really would like to do this winter is study my photo editing software. I have a lot to learn!

Here are some tulip photos for all of you who are tired of looking at snowbanks. Here’s hoping we don’t get too much more of that white stuff tonight!

A Few More Amaryllis Views

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Thought I’d take a few last shots of the Butterfly Amaryllis this morning. What a pleasure it was to see this plant grow and bloom over the wintry weeks we’ve had.

Amaryllis Beauty

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Another blossom miraculously opened on the Butterfly Amaryllis yesterday. What a stunning wonder, the growth and unfolding of a flower.

It is amazing to see how many compositions one plant can provide, from the opening of the first bud to the closing of the last blossom. Another blossom appeared today, and offered a whole new arrangement to observe and record. I’ll have those images on my next post.

Framed Amaryllis

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I also framed up a couple of new Butterfly Amaryllis prints, just to have a touch of warm red color in the house. There are two more buds ready to open on the amaryllis, and I will see if there is anything more to capture with my camera.
