Replacements Have Arrived

Friday, March 5th, 2010

My order of replacement pastel pencils and sharpener blades arrived yesterday. I’m getting closer to starting a new series of Badlands drawings, which will be based on photographs I took last September near the East River Road. I’ve been invited to show my drawings at the July 2nd Rider Gallery Art Show and the July 4th Arts Roundup in Dickinson, and I’m really looking forward to it.

After the Show

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Well, it’s good to have all the deadline pressure off, now that my exhibit is finished and on the walls of the Bowman library. My walls seem quite bare, by contrast, but that is O.K. by me. I’m getting around to cleaning and organizing my studio space. It’s time to put all the pastel pencils back into their color groups in my Mexican sugar molds, and to order replacements for those that were used the most. Some new blades for sharpening the pencils are in order, also.

House Cleaning and Art Removal

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

I’ve been going around the house, trying to reduce clutter and get things more organized. After moving my two 30 x 40 inch oil stick drawings from room to room over the past year or two, I decided today to just get rid of them. They were a useful experiment in that medium, but they aren’t exactly where I want to go. If I want to do more, I will probably have to utilize more blending, and find a larger range of colors. The idea of making drawings without having to frame them with glass is still very appealing, though.

Self-Portrait with Filters

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

After seeing what filters could do for horses and sunflowers, I decided to try them on myself.  I probably won’t be making drawings from them, but it was an interesting experiment!

Pastel Pencils

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

My pastel pencils have become a colorful jumble over the course of my series of Equus drawings. I’ve always enjoyed the look and feel of art materials themselves, and love to see the places where other artists work.

Here’s a shot of me in the studio with my Equus drawings yesterday afternoon. Can you tell that I enjoy color? I’ve heard of galleries having a stable of artists, but this artist is acquiring a stable of drawings.

Pastel Pencils

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I received 36 Daler- Rowney artists’ pastel pencils today, along with plenty of replacement blades for my pencil sharpener. It is a pleasure to have a full line of colors available for all the drawings at hand.

New Pastel Pencils

Friday, December 5th, 2008

New pastel pencils arrived from Dakota Art Pastels today. Joy! Sixty colors by Faber-Castell to add to my line. They also sent a special pencil sharpener, blades, and some replacements for CarbOthello pastel pencils that were getting low. Loved the logo and name on their cardboard shipping box. Will have to sit down and make color charts for the new arrivals one of these days.
