Sunflower Portfolio

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

As the sunflowers ripen and bloom, I’m able to get more complex compositions, using two or three blossoms and the leaves and stems. I’m having a ball playing with the colors and arrangements, and I am looking forward to doing a series of sunflower drawings. The photos will make some great note cards and prints, also.

Happy Labor Day

Monday, September 6th, 2010

It’s a grey Labor Day here in Bowman, so I’m working on indoor stuff, like updating my Facebook page and preparing for a pastel workshop at Dickinson State University. I’ve been learning new things myself as I research the history of pastel drawing. Hope you all have an enjoyable day, wherever you are.

Sunflowers

Monday, August 16th, 2010

The sunflowers are forming buds and blossoms now, which means that my sunflower portfolio will be expanding as well.

Art and Gardens

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Two of my favorite things in the world, art and gardens… I finished planting sunflower seeds in the backyard this morning, and got my super parfait raspberry dianthus planted on the east side of the house. The wind made me want to go inside, where I got some work done on my “Blue Buffalo” drawing.

More Art Note Cards

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

I have prepared more note cards of my prairie drawings, and will be e-mailing them to the printer later today. When they are done, I will have almost a complete collection of my art available on cards. Several of the images are long and narrow, so I am going to figure out some text to fill up the white space under the image. Will post a photo later, when they are pretty much wrapped up.

“Arts Dakota” Touring Exhibit

I checked the schedule for the “Arts Dakota” touring exhibition, which showcases the work of many of North Dakota’s artists. Here are the next two venues:

January 1 – 31, 2010: Bismarck Art & Galleries Association, Bismarck. Call 223-5986 or e-mail:  baga@midconetwork.com

Stop by and check out the interesting work being created by North Dakotans, if you get a chance!

Bismarck and Medora

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Well, I’ve been to Bismarck to pick up my horse drawings from the  State Capitol, then on a little vacation over to Medora and the Badlands of North Dakota. I have lots of new photos to process, and will be posting some of them soon. Stay tuned.

Peony Petals

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

I just had to photograph more peony blossoms this morning. You’d think that one flower would pretty much look like all the others, but it’s amazing how different they are when you really observe them.

The June Snow

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Here are some photos of the snow we had last Saturday, June 6th. I think I heard the weather people say we hadn’t had snow in June since 1951. It’s another cool day in Bowman, but at least the snow is gone! This is great country, if you don’t weaken!

April Afternoon North of Bowman

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

We have had some fine spring weather the last few days, and it inspired me to go look for some crocus flowers yesterday afternoon. I didn’t see any of them emerging yet, but I saw lots of wonderful clouds, a few remaining patches of snow, lots of puddles and ponds, some ducks, meadowlarks, horses, newborn calves, and a young cattleman fixing fences. A great springtime day out among the northern prairie hills!
